How Plants Grow

From a tiny seed to a tall tree — what a plant actually needs to grow.

A1 · For Kids · about 2 min

Plants are living things, just like animals. But plants make their own food!

A plant needs four things to grow: sunlight, water, air and soil.

The roots grow under the ground. They take in water and hold the plant in place.

The leaves use sunlight to make food for the plant. This is called photosynthesis.

With enough sunlight and water, a small seed can grow into a tall tree.
